The Nottingham Waterside area is one that has been underdeveloped in the past, but with the arrival of a number of projects, Trent Basin among them, the space stretching from Trent Bridge to Colwick Park will be given a new lease of life.
Covering a long stretch of the river, the Basin also encompasses the site of the former Trent Lane Depot – an inland harbour that was once an important, thriving port for the transportation of cargo from the North East. Boats from Hull and neighbouring cities would arrive here, offloading goods such as Baltic timber and even cocoa, before being stocked with locally manufactured items and continuing their journey south.
This historic section of Trent Basin will be rejuvenated to allow the harbour to be used for leisure purposes and boat moorings, ensuring that the present development recognises and celebrates the area’s past.
